The whole enzyme-as-a-little-worker idea finally made digestion click for my 4-year-old, who kept asking what happens to her lunch after she swallows it. We've read it four nights in a row now, and she points at the chewed-up food page every time.

My 6-year-old now explains digestion at dinner like a tiny scientist, all because of the chewed-up food journey and the enzyme character doing his experiments. It's a picture book, but she asks for it over her usual princess stories, which says a lot.

My 7-year-old actually asks to read this at bedtime now, which never happens with anything educational. The way the enzyme character runs his little experiments on chewed-up food made the whole digestion thing click for her.
